Dining chair in ebonised bentwood by Gustav Siegel for J and J Kohn from the Art Nouveau movement (1890–1910), c.1905. The design features a slightly bowed back with a vertical splat arrangement above a circular seat and arched legs, combining structural lightness with formal balance. Two retain newly re-caned seats to original specification.
Gustav Siegel, a key designer for the Viennese firm J and J Kohn, refined the bentwood technique into elegant and ergonomically advanced forms suited to cafés and domestic interiors of the early twentieth century. This model exemplifies the firm's contribution to the Art Nouveau aesthetic through modern industrial craftsmanship and sculptural design economy.
