High-back chair in rosewood designed by Thomas Edward Collcutt for Collinson and Lock during the Aesthetic Movement (1860–1890), c.1880. The frame is composed with elegant architectural precision, the tapering front legs and rectangular back united by linear stretchers and an upholstered panel that accentuates the chair’s upright silhouette. The later blue fabric complements the original rosewood tone without disturbing the period form.

The quality of construction exemplifies Collinson and Lock’s disciplined joinery and material refinement, where decorative control is achieved through proportion rather than ornament. The clarity of line, careful modelling of the crest rail, and balanced tension between structure and upholstery.
