By Waring and Gillow, an Arts and Crafts bow-fronted display cabinet aligned to the Arts and Crafts movement (1880–1910), 1899. The cabinet follows the firm’s late nineteenth-century exhibition style, combining carefully arranged inlay with a tiered architectural composition.
An arched bevelled mirror rises above the central display zone, flanked by two upper shelves with stylised inlaid decoration. Below, the main section incorporates a bow-fronted arrangement with a pair of glazed doors enclosing an interior lined in green fabric and fitted with shelves. On each side are additional glazed cabinets with matching green-lined interiors. The lower doors carry stylised entwined floral and heart inlays set within square fields, balancing the visual weight of the bow fronted centre.
The whole stands on eight square tapering legs joined by a lower display surface, creating an elevated and open stance characteristic of Waring and Gillow’s furniture in the closing years of the nineteenth century. The presence of ebony and pewter inlays, the shaped mirror frame and the glazed compartmental structure place the piece squarely within the firm’s known Arts and Crafts vocabulary.
Depth at the centre of the bow front is 19" and 16" depth on each side of the bow.
