Art Nouveau brass fire utensils, tongs and shovel c.1905

POA

This set of fire utensils in brass belongs to the Art Nouveau (1890–1910) tradition, c.1905, European. The pair comprises long tongs with waisted shafts and scrolled terminals, and a shovel with a domed pan and upright neck. Whiplash flourishes supply the ornament, while small trefoil feet steady the tongs when set to the hearth.

Construction is direct and workshop-led, with cast and formed brass elements joined for strength and heat handling. The vocabulary is typical of turn-of-the-century metalwork, drawing movement from sinuous profiles rather than heavy decoration. The pieces are a matched pair in line and finish.

Further images & measurements available on request. The piece is currently held in storage at one of our showrooms.
