Pair of shades in frosted glass, of the Arts and Crafts movement (1880–1910), c.1900. Each shade falls in a gentle drape from the gallery to a soft, flowing rim, the matte surface calming glare and giving a diffused, even light. The silhouettes read as cloth caught mid-fall, a quiet naturalism favoured in the later phase of the movement. Scale suits pendant fittings or small table lamps where a softer pool of light is wanted. The rims offer subtle movement without excess ornament, letting form and light do the work, a simple effect, and a pleasing, practical pair.
