John Ednie

John Ednie was a Scottish designer and decorative artist active in the early 20th century, associated with the Glasgow Style and the wider Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements. Based in Glasgow, Ednie produced designs for furniture, interiors, and textiles that reflected the elegant linearity and stylized motifs characteristic of the period. He collaborated with firms such as Wylie and Lochhead, contributing to their progressive furniture ranges with designs that balanced artistic refinement and functional clarity. Ednie's work often featured elongated forms, organic patterns, and subtle detailing, influenced by both Celtic revivalism and continental Art Nouveau. Though not as widely known as some of his contemporaries, his contributions helped shape the visual language of early modern Scottish design. Today, his furniture and decorative works are appreciated for their quality, originality, and their place within the rich legacy of the Glasgow Style.
