William Morris

William Morris (1834–1896) was a leading British designer, artist, poet, and social reformer, widely regarded as the central figure of the Arts and Crafts movement. Deeply influenced by medieval craftsmanship, Morris founded the decorative arts firm Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. (later Morris & Co.) in 1861. His aim was to restore integrity and beauty to everyday objects through skilled handcraftsmanship, natural materials, and honest design. Morris's output included textiles, wallpapers, furniture, stained glass, and books, all marked by his richly patterned and nature-inspired motifs. As a writer and political thinker, Morris championed the value of craftsmanship, the dignity of labor, and the social responsibilities of art. His designs, including iconic patterns such as "Strawberry Thief" and "Willow Bough," remain influential worldwide and continue to be celebrated for their timeless beauty and artistic integrity.
