Shapland & Petter – Arts and Crafts Oak Fire Surround with Five Hearts

£2,000

This fire surround in oak sits within the Arts and Crafts (1880–1910) tradition, c.1895, by Shapland & Petter of Barnstaple. The overmantel carries a bevelled mirror within a plain moulded frame, set over a cornice with small hooked brackets. Below, the frieze is laid out with five heart carvings and a central roundel, flanked by tapering columns that rise from the shelf. The jambs are squared and strongly vertical, so the opening reads clean and architectural.
