E. W. Godwin Style Rare Anglo-Japanese Walnut Double Bed with Lattice Work Details

POA

An extremely rare Anglo-Japanese walnut double bed or a four-poster bed, in the style of E. W. Godwin

Probably made by Collinson & Lock of London. With higher latticework bar to the headboard which has curled ends and central latticework details to the head and footboards, united at each corner by chunky turned legs, and solid side rails that bolt into place with a large tenon joint and two large bolts to each side rail end. I must say, when bolted together there is no movement whatsoever.

The turned uprights/legs have a hole drilled into the tops of all four, which were originally for making it into a four-poster bed. Although the frame wasn’t there when I bought the bed, it would be an easy and inexpensive job to have a frame made from iron bar, creating an all-around canopy to hang decorative curtains from.

The headboard images of it dismantled are from both sides and show the bolts. A super quality bed.
