Heal’s – Arts & Crafts Oak Cocktail Table with Bottle Storage
£1,400
Cocktail table in oak, of the Arts and Crafts Movement (1880–1910). Made by Heal’s (established 1810–present), this rare octagonal table represents the firm’s transition into early twentieth-century domestic design. Each of the two hinged side doors opens to reveal a lined compartment fitted with bottle racks and glass holders, the interiors finished in a light wash to contrast the exterior oak.
The top is well-figured and plain, resting above an open central shelf, the whole raised on short square legs. The form is simple yet finely executed, combining the firm’s tradition of handcraft with practical innovation for modern social life. An unusual and highly functional piece that illustrates the continuity of Arts and Crafts principles into the developing leisure culture of the 1920s.
