J and J Kohn

J. & J. Kohn was a leading Austrian furniture manufacturer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, renowned for its elegant bentwood designs and close association with the Vienna Secession. Founded in Vienna in 1867 by brothers Jacob and Josef Kohn, the firm quickly became one of the most important producers of bentwood furniture in Europe, alongside Thonet. J. & J. Kohn collaborated with prominent designers such as Gustav Siegel and Josef Hoffmann, producing refined, modern furniture that balanced industrial innovation with artistic quality. Their pieces are known for their graceful curves, structural lightness, and finely crafted details, often combining bent beechwood with cane, upholstery, or decorative inlays. The firm exhibited internationally and received numerous awards for design and manufacturing excellence. In 1914, J. & J. Kohn merged with Mundus, and later became part of the Thonet-Mundus group, but its early designs remain highly influential in the history of modern furniture.
