Steuben

Steuben was an American glass manufacturer founded in 1903 in Corning, New York, by Frederick Carder and Thomas G. Hawkes. The company quickly became known for its high-quality art glass, celebrated for its exceptional clarity, innovative techniques, and elegant design. Under Carder’s direction, Steuben produced a wide range of colored and iridescent glass in styles influenced by Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts movement. In 1933, Steuben became a division of Corning Glass Works and shifted its focus to clear lead crystal, establishing a new standard of excellence in modern glass design. Steuben glass was often hand-formed and polished to optical brilliance, with many pieces created in collaboration with artists, sculptors, and designers. The company produced everything from decorative vases and bowls to engraved presentation pieces and limited-edition sculpture. Known for its craftsmanship and refinement, Steuben glass became a symbol of American artistry and was frequently given as diplomatic gifts by U.S. presidents. Today, Steuben pieces are highly collectible and admired for their technical perfection and timeless beauty.
