A Fine Georgian Mahogany Miniature Chest of Drawers c.1810
£1,500
Miniature chest of drawers in mahogany, aligned to the Georgian period (1714–1830), c.1810. A finely made example of cabinetmaking in miniature, executed with the same discipline and proportion as a full-sized chest. The mahogany surfaces are framed with tulipwood banding, the drawers fitted with handmade period brass handles, and the form raised on bracket feet of characteristic Georgian outline.
Originally conceived either as an apprentice or salesman’s sample to demonstrate skill and constructional integrity, or for domestic use on the dressing table, such pieces were admired for the precision of their joinery and their refined presence. The shallow drawers provide ordered storage for jewellery, watches and personal accessories. A pleasingly formal little chest, perfectly scaled and representative of Georgian craftsmanship.
