A rare and early Anglo-Japanese ebonised tall chest of drawers

Designed by Daniel Cottier, this chest has a gilt-painted swallow, stylised bamboo and plant forms with rosettes, and a later black marble top. The lower drawer is a double drawer.

The last three images are like the Cottier corner cupboard illustrated in House Beautiful by Clarence Cook, circa 1878, where you can see the exact same painted devices.
