WMF

WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) (c. 1880 to present) is a German metalware manufacturer renowned for its innovative tableware, decorative objects, and household goods. Formed in Geislingen an der Steige through the merger of Straub’s Metallwarenfabrik and A. Ritter & Co., the firm gained international prominence by combining refined design with advanced electroplating technology. During the Art Nouveau and Jugendstil period, WMF produced silver-plated and pewter items distinguished by flowing lines, natural motifs, and intricate relief work, often showcased at world’s fairs and exported worldwide. The company also offered extensive catalogues featuring everything from cutlery and coffee services to lamps and centrepieces, making high-style design accessible to a broad audience. Throughout the twentieth century WMF continued to innovate with stainless steel cookware and modernist flatware, maintaining a commitment to quality, functionality, and design excellence. Today, antique WMF pieces are highly sought by collectors, while the brand remains active, upholding its legacy of craftsmanship and industrial artistry.
