Arts and Crafts Copper, Brass and Iron Fender c.1900

£650

Fireplace fender in copper, brass and iron from the Arts and Crafts movement (1880–1910), c.1900. The rectilinear structure encloses the hearth on three sides with upright ends and a central span of hand-formed repoussé panels decorated with stylised floral motifs. Riveted corner braces in contrasting iron strengthen the joins and provide tonal variation across the metals.

The combination of hammered texture and honest construction is characteristic of Arts and Crafts domestic metalwork, where visible craftsmanship and natural ornament reflected the movement’s moral approach to design and fabrication.
