Dr Christopher Dresser for Benham & Froud – Gothic Revival Walnut Coal Box
£1,200
By Benham & Froud, to a design by Dr Christopher Dresser, a walnut coal box aligned to the Gothic Revival (c.1840–1890), c.1877. The sloping body stands on bun feet and carries a shaped brass carry handle. Brass strapwork with stylised floral terminals frames the sides and front. The lid has a studded panel with a small knob and shaped hinges. The interior retains the original shovel. The mix of figured walnut and practical pressed brass fittings is typical of Benham & Froud production for domestic hearth use.
