Dr Christopher Dresser for Benham and Froud – Brass Coal Bucket
POA
By Dr Christopher Dresser for Benham and Froud, a brass coal bucket aligned to the Aesthetic Movement (1860–1890), c.1880s. The oval body rises from a circular plinth base, the rim flaring to a generous mouth suitable for holding coal beside the hearth. A single hand-wrought whiplash iron handle sweeps over the opening, giving a strong linear contrast to the rounded form. Stylised floral repoussé work runs around the shoulder, concentrating the ornament where the handle meets the body and leaving the lower surface comparatively plain.
