Christopher Dresser for Benham & Froud – Aesthetic Movement Brass Fire Dogs
£375 / set
This pair of fire dogs in brass belong to the Aesthetic Movement (1860–1890), c.1900, English, designed by Christopher Dresser for Benham and Froud. Each has a short upright over a ribbed spherical body, the cross bar finely turned and finished with tight scrolled terminals. Three splayed legs give a stable tripod stance at the hearth, the profiles reading as clear geometry rather than heavy ornament. Dresser favoured simple, repeatable forms that express function through outline and proportion, an approach well suited to Benham and Froud’s quality brassware ranges of the period.
