An Aesthetic Movement ebonized walnut armchair
H. W. Batley or E. W. Godwin for Collinson & Lock attributed, professionally reupholstered in a gold and blue damask. The spindle turnings to the back and how the arms are joined to the backrest, including the splayed front legs and side stretchers with fine incised turned details, are both typical of Batley and Godwin for Collinson & Lock. Batley was a pupil of Bruce J. Talbert, and he designed furniture for Collinson & Lock and James Shoolbred & Co.
