Heals – Art Deco Oak Armchairs with Rounded Arms, Set of Four

£2,400 / set

A set of four Heals oak armchairs from the Art Deco period (1920–1929), each with shaped seat and backrest, rounded arms, and upholstered panels.

These oak armchairs by Heals exemplify the restrained geometry and craftsmanship of the Art Deco period (1920–1929). Designed with clarity of line and proportion, the chairs express Heals’ move from late Arts and Crafts construction toward the sleeker modern aesthetic that defined the interwar years.

Each chair features a rectangular frame with rounded open arms, a gently shaped seat, and an upholstered backrest outlined by a square border. The solid oak structure, lightly curved to soften its profile, reflects the firm’s interest in functional comfort and workshop precision. Upholstery of neutral tone enhances the material warmth of the oak without interrupting the rhythm of the design.

The set embodies Heals’ early twentieth-century vision of modern domestic furniture, well-made, architecturally composed, and modest in ornament. All four retain their original surfaces with even colour and good patina.
