Lakeside Craft Shop – American Arts and Crafts Oak Bookcase (c.1910)
£950
Oak bookcase by Lakeside Craft Shop, American Arts and Crafts movement, c.1910, three-shelf form with shaped sides and maker’s label beneath the top.
This oak bookcase, produced by the Lakeside Craft Shop during the American Arts and Crafts movement c.1910, combines clarity of construction with the honest simplicity that defined the period’s furniture design. The form consists of three open shelves framed by tall side panels pierced with arched openings and circular cut-outs at the base.
The upper rail rises into shaped finials, giving the profile a sculptural quality while maintaining functional restraint. Each shelf is solidly jointed into the uprights, showing the square framing and pegged structure typical of American workshop production around 1910. The original maker’s label remains intact beneath the top shelf, providing direct evidence of manufacture.
The piece stands firm, its lines straight and the construction sound, a well-preserved example of American Arts and Crafts joinery.
