Shapland and Petter – Arts and Crafts Inlaid Oak Side Chair with Pierced Heart
£950
By Shapland and Petter, an oak side chair aligned to the Arts and Crafts movement (1880–1910), c.1900. The chair features a tall back with three curved horizontal rails, the uppermost decorated with chequered string inlay, and a central splat pierced with a small heart motif. The seat is caned and professionally re-laid within a straight-edged oak frame, supported on square section legs joined by plain stretchers on all sides. The back legs are slightly raked, producing a gentle curve that adds lightness to the profile. This design reflects Shapland and Petter’s restrained and well-balanced approach to Arts and Crafts domestic furniture.
