Anglo-Japanese Cane-Work Armchair c.1880
£2,000
This Anglo-Japanese armchair was produced around 1880 during the Aesthetic Movement (1870–1890), when British designers absorbed Japanese design principles into domestic furniture. The combination of structural lightness, fine joinery, and natural materials reflects the Anglo-Japanese aesthetic that defined late Victorian reform design.
The chair is constructed in stained beech with a curved back and woven cane panels to the seat and backrest. The front legs are turned to imitate bamboo, resting on splayed feet joined by stretchers for stability.
