Joseph Maria Olbrich, attributed. Art Nouveau Inlaid Side Chair

£2,800

An Art Nouveau side chair attributed to Joseph Maria Olbrich (1867–1908), one of the founders of the Vienna Secession. The tall, rectilinear back is formed of slim vertical splats beneath a narrow top rail centred with a circular inlaid medallion, the stylised rosette expressing the Secessionist preference for abstracted floral geometry. The seat is upholstered in green leather and close-nailed around the edge, supported on square-section legs braced by stretchers for stability. The economy of ornament, clear structure and carefully judged proportions align with Olbrich’s approach to furniture for modern domestic interiors, where line, surface and construction are treated with equal discipline. Measurements are recorded in the listing.
