Lewis Foreman Day, for Howell, James & Sons. An Aesthetic Movement ebonized and polychrome painted mantle clock with a carved floret to the centre of the arched and turned gallery flanked by turned finials, with a dentil moulding below, and criss-cross lattice work to the upper sides. The lower sides feature hand-painted Aesthetic flowers in planters with eight square floral panels surrounding the base. The brass engraved and painted dial with bevelled glass and quartets of flowers growing from Roman-style planters, flanked by turned columns, and fine tramline detailing throughout, all stood on typical turned tapering feet. Serviced and ticks away nicely.
