E. G. Punnett for Liberty & Co., A Walnut Side Chair with Inlaid Floral Decoration

By William Birch for Liberty and Co, a walnut side chair designed by E. G. Punnett, aligned to the Arts and Crafts movement (1880–1910), c.1901. The tall rectangular back has a narrow top rail set with two circular floral medallion inlays in contrasting sycamore and boxwood, divided by square apertures, above an open three-bar panel. A trapezoidal upholstered seat with grape-and-leaf patterned textile sits on round legs with twin side stretchers and a single front and rear stretcher.
