Arts and Crafts Pair of Hand Wrought and Twisted Iron Table Lamps (c.1900)
£1,000 / set
A pair of hand wrought iron table lamps, Arts and Crafts movement, each twisted and forged by hand, standing on a circular pierced base, c.1900.
This pair of hand wrought iron table lamps, produced during the Arts and Crafts movement c.1900, exemplifies the integrity of hand-forged craftsmanship central to the period. Each lamp rises from a circular base of pierced quatrefoil form, the stem twisted through heat and hammer to create a rhythmic, sculptural profile.
The restrained design and visible hammerwork align with the ethos of English metalworkers at the turn of the century, when surface texture and form were preferred to ornate embellishment. The lamps retain their original character, later adapted for electric use with sympathetic fittings.
The iron shows a naturally aged patina with traces of the blackened finish, consistent with period workmanship.
