£8,800 £7,040

George Edmund Street
A Gothic Revival walnut armchair, designed for the Judges of The Royal Courts of Justice in Fleet Street (London's High Court).

With spiral-carved finials and matching spiral carving to the front legs. Featuring a subtle flowing design beneath the arms and shallow floral carving to the back of each arm. This armchair is ready for upholstery—the backs were originally intended for button-back upholstery.

In 1868, G. E. Street's design won the competition to construct The Royal Courts of Justice. Queen Victoria officially opened the building in December 1882, following eleven years of construction. It immediately became an iconic architectural landmark in the heart of London's Fleet Street.
