Heal’s of London – Arts and Crafts Oak Refectory Table
POA
An oak refectory table attributed to Heal’s of London, Arts and Crafts movement, c.1900, with stretcher base and finely proportioned rectangular top.
This oak refectory table, attributed to Heal’s of London and produced around 1900, reflects the Arts and Crafts movement’s ideal of functional craftsmanship. Constructed in solid oak, the table rests on chamfered supports joined by a broad stretcher, its long rectangular top displaying clean lines and balanced proportions.
Heal’s workshops were among the foremost exponents of modern English domestic design in the early twentieth century, producing furniture that combined utility with quiet aesthetic integrity. The simplicity of form seen here reflects the philosophy of Ambrose Heal, who favoured clarity of construction and the honest use of material. The oak shows a warm, even tone, with surface wear consistent with age and use.
