Heal's of London for Hamptons of Pall Mall – Pair of Modernist Oak Bookcase

£1,500 / set

Pair of bookcases in oak aligned to the Modernist movement (1910–1939), c.1930, made for a British retail interior. Each case has a low rectilinear form, set on a shallow plinth base, with an asymmetrical arrangement of open shelves and a single cupboard. Elongated sculpted wooden handles run vertically down the cupboard doors.

Retailed by Hamptons of Pall Mall and attributed to Heal's and Son, both cases are stamped with design numbers to the backs. The disciplined geometry and plain oak surfaces place the pair within early twentieth-century British Modernism, suitable for use as compact book storage or as wall-mounted display cases in a study, hallway or living space.
