Liberty & Co. by Archibald Knox – Arts and Crafts Pewter Rocket Vase 0226

£550

This Arts and Crafts pewter rocket vase by Archibald Knox for Liberty & Co., model 0226, was produced around 1910 and represents one of the most distinctive designs from the firm’s celebrated Tudric range. The elongated bombe body, embossed with stylised leaf and scroll motifs, rises from three sweeping supports that taper to angular feet.

The composition encapsulates Knox’s synthesis of Celtic Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts geometry, fluid organic forms disciplined by structure. His designs for Liberty’s English Pewter and Tudric lines transformed pewter into a modern material of elegance and restraint, elevating functional domestic objects into sculptural statements.

Stamped “English Pewter, No. 0226” (See last two images), the vase stands as a hallmark of early twentieth-century design reform, merging artistry and manufacture in perfect harmony.
