E. W. Godwin Attributed, Ebonised Music Cabinet Probably by Collinson and Lock
Price on Application
This item is price on application due to its rarity and importance.
Attributed to E. W. Godwin and probably made by Collinson and Lock, this music cabinet in ebonised wood aligned to the Aesthetic Movement (1860 to 1890), c.1875. The mirrored back sits below the upper shelf, creating a shallow display tier across the top.
The cupboard doors are divided into four fielded panels, centred by horizontal tramline moulding and fitted with gilded brass ring pull handles. These handles are identical to handles on two corner cupboards attributed to E. W. Godwin, albeit upside down.*
The lower shelf links the legs and gives the cabinet a light open base beneath the enclosed body. The cabinet is raised on ring-turned legs united by a lower shelf.
