Liberty & Co. Tudric 042 pewter tray with heart handles
£1,800
Substantial tray in pewter, aligned to the Arts and Crafts movement (1880–1910), c.1900. British Liberty Tudric character is clear in the restrained oval field and functional fittings, a serving piece suited to sideboard or dining service. Broad rim plates and domed-rivet attachments provide the principal construction cue, with the generous plan reading as low and stable. Within the wider current of British vernacular design, the form sits at the practical end of Liberty’s metalwork. Good overall colour with light surface marks from use.
The oval field is framed by broad rim plates and fitted with distinctive heart-shaped handles secured by domed rivets. The silhouette is spare and functional, with a gentle medievalist note typical of Liberty Tudric metalware of the period. The composition prioritises utility, the handles providing confident grasp points while keeping the outline compact and purposeful.
Marked Tudric 042. The date sits at the turn of the century when Liberty’s Tudric range established a plain, serviceable idiom within Arts and Crafts, favouring clear geometry and honest fixings over excess surface treatment
