Arts and Crafts, c.1900 Set of Three Peacock Feather Vaseline Glass Shades
POA
A set of three Vaseline glass shades dating to c.1900, designed in the Arts and Crafts Movement idiom with a stylised peacock feather motif in relief around the bell-shaped bodies. The glass shows a soft blue-green opalescence that shifts at the rim, a visual effect associated with uranium content in Vaseline glass and characteristic of turn-of-the-century British lighting. Each shade is proportioned for small pendant or wall fittings and has a fitter aperture of 3 cm / 1.18 in as recorded in the listing, allowing precise compatibility with period galleries. The restrained form and repeating organic ornament reflect the movement’s aim to marry natural pattern with functional design, while the consistent colour and neatly finished lips indicate careful workshop production rather than later reproduction. Together the trio presents an unusually coherent set, suitable for a multi-arm fixture or coordinated sconces within an early twentieth-century interior.
