W. A. S. Benson – Arts and Crafts Brass Three-Leg Table Lamp
£1,250
This table lamp in brass by W. A. S. Benson of the Arts and Crafts movement (1880–1910), c.1900. It stands on a cast tripod base with flattened and slightly upturned feet, each chamfered and gently curved, joined to the stem by a rounded boss. The underside retains traces of the original lacquer, visible alongside age-related oxidation.
The hexagonal stem tapers through a knopped collar to a turned upper section now fitted with a modern bayonet lamp holder. The fitting replaces the original electrical component and the lamp currently requires wiring before use. The form demonstrates Benson’s methodical approach to proportion and structural economy, combining machine precision with hand-finished surfaces.
