Liberty and Co (Attributed) – Arts and Crafts Oak Plant Stand
£850
Plant stand in oak, attributed to Liberty and Co, from the Arts and Crafts movement (1880–1910), c.1895. The design features three graduated tiers connected by slender tapering supports, each shelf framed by pierced Moorish aprons. The geometry of the form is softened by the subtle arching of the aprons and the vertical rhythm of the legs, achieving both structural lightness and visual poise.
This example aligns with the range of oak furniture retailed by Liberty and Co during the late nineteenth century, combining hand craftsmanship with exotic stylistic influences drawn from Eastern and Moorish sources. Such pieces embodied the firm’s ethos of artistic simplicity and were designed to harmonise with the interior reform ideals of the Arts and Crafts period.
