Wardle, an Arts & Crafts Planter with Tube Line Decoration of Stylised Flowers
£950
Planter in art pottery, of the Arts and Crafts Movement (1880–1910). Made by Wardle & Co. (1871–1935), this example is decorated with tube-lined motifs of stylised sunflowers and broad leaves, the relief outlines framing areas of rich translucent glaze. The palette moves from olive green through turquoise to deep blue, the colours pooling naturally within the raised contours to emphasise the floral rhythm of the design.
The technique and composition exemplify Wardle’s contribution to late Arts and Crafts ceramics, combining fine control of glaze with strong graphic pattern. The rounded form and continuous decoration give balance and unity, presenting a distinctive statement of English art pottery in the early twentieth century.
