Pair of Mottled Yellow and Orange Glass Shades c.1930

£250 / set

This pair of mottled yellow and orange glass shades was produced around 1930 during the later phase of the Arts and Crafts movement 1880–1910 and its lingering influence through the interwar period. Each hand-blown shade features a warm palette of marbled orange and yellow glass, the colours fusing within a softly flared bell form.

The mottled surface was achieved through the introduction of coloured frits into molten glass, producing a spontaneous painterly effect admired for its natural variation. Such shades were often fitted to pendant or wall lights, bringing vibrancy and warmth to domestic interiors at a time when artisanal methods continued to coexist with early industrial glass production.
