Vaseline Shade

Pair of glass shades in Vaseline glass, of the Arts and Crafts Movement (1880–1910). Each hand-blown shade is shaped with a flared, scalloped rim, the surface displaying a gentle iridescence and the characteristic translucent green of uranium glass. The glass transitions from pale yellow to soft blue at the edges, creating an opaline effect that intensifies in transmitted light.

These shades exemplify the refined craftsmanship of British glassmakers around 1900, prized for their subtle colour and light diffusion. The right-hand shade has been sold, with the left-hand example remaining available. Together or singly, they illustrate the poetic use of light and material in Arts and Crafts design.
