Dryad of Leicester – Pair of Brass Candlesticks
£750 / set
A pair of brass candlesticks by Dryad of Leicester, Arts and Crafts movement, with broad circular bases and tapering stems, c.1900.
This pair of brass candlesticks, produced by Dryad of Leicester during the Arts and Crafts movement (1880–1910), illustrates the firm’s commitment to functional design and traditional handcraft. Each candlestick stands on a circular base with a slender, tapering stem rising to a simple drip pan and socket.
Dryad was founded in Leicester in the early twentieth century and became a key producer of domestic metalwork and furniture reflecting the ideals of the movement. The restrained form and plain surface of these candlesticks demonstrate the workshop’s preference for structural clarity over ornament. The brass has acquired a mellow tone through age and handling, consistent with early twentieth-century craftsmanship.
