Jesson Birkett & Co. – Silver Plated Inkwell with Monogram

£440

A silver plated inkwell by Jesson Birkett & Co., Arts and Crafts movement, stamped with a monogram and '682 L', dating to around 1910.

This silver plated inkwell, produced by Jesson Birkett & Co. during the Arts and Crafts movement c.1910, presents a restrained geometric form typical of early twentieth-century deskware. The circular lid lifts on a simple hinge to reveal the inkwell recess, the body rising from a broad chamfered base that tapers to the edge. The underside is stamped with the maker’s mark, a monogram, and the reference ‘682 L’. The silver plate retains a soft, even tone, with areas of natural age to the surface consistent with use. Such pieces illustrate the practicality and disciplined design associated with English craftsmanship in the period.
