Liberty & Co. Attributed – Hammered Pewter and Enamel Photograph Frame (c.1900)
POA
A hammered pewter and enamel photograph frame attributed to Liberty & Co., Arts and Crafts movement, rectangular form with inset roundel, c.1900.
This hammered pewter photograph frame, attributed to Liberty & Co. and dating to around c.1900, embodies the Arts and Crafts movement’s preference for textured metalwork and handcrafted ornament. The rectangular surround is hammered throughout, inset at the crest with a circular enamel roundel in green tones.
Such frames were characteristic of Liberty’s Cymric and Tudric ranges, produced in pewter with restrained colour accents to harmonise with domestic interiors. The backboard remains intact, and the metal retains a consistent patina commensurate with age and handling. The piece reflects the firm’s interest in fusing artistic design with functional craftsmanship.
