Vaseline Glass Oil Lamp Shade with Flared Frill Rim c.1900

Oil lamp shade in Vaseline glass, of the Arts and Crafts Movement (1880–1910). Hand-blown with a tall cylindrical body that rises to a wide flared rim finished in an undulating frill. The shade measures seven inches high and is made to fit a four-and-a-half-inch gallery. The material displays a gentle opaline shift from translucent yellow to pale blue, glowing with a soft green fluorescence under ultraviolet light, typical of uranium-infused glass around 1900.

The control of colour and light within the glass reflects the movement’s appreciation of natural optical effects and craftsmanship. A fine example for an oil lamp or pendant fitting, demonstrating the artistry and refinement of British decorative glass at the turn of the century.
