Birmingham Guild of Handicraft, Attributed – Arts and Crafts Hammered Copper Chandelier
£7,500
Attributed to the Birmingham Guild of Handicraft, a large handmade copper chandelier aligned to the Arts and Crafts Movement (1880–1910), c.1905. The design combines a broad flaring top plate with deeply hammered surfaces and a ring of small riveted domes, all supported above a circular body bearing complex scrollwork.
A heavy-gauge copper ring forms the main structural band, pierced to hold a sequence of hand-forged scrolls that project outward in varying spirals. Five primary arms sweep out from this ring, each arm flowing forward before turning in split scrolls at the ends. The upper recess between the arms guides the cable path internally, letting the flex run through the arm channels before dropping below the outer scroll to accept pendant shades. The hand-hammered finish, rounded riveting, and fluid forged scrolls echo the workshop character associated with the Guild.
This example will require wiring to current standards.
A second example of this chandelier is also available, identical in form but with a lighter copper finish, click here
