Liberty & Co., attributed. Egyptian Style Thebes Armchair Original Rush Seated Armchair

£1,500

Liberty & Co., attributed Thebes style armchair

This Egyptian-style Thebes armchair dates to around 1890 and retains its original rush seat. The form is characterised by a spindle back, curved arms, and turned legs, reflecting Liberty’s adaptation of Egyptian and vernacular influences within the Arts & Crafts Movement. The robust oak frame is enhanced by the natural rush, a material long associated with honesty of construction and comfort.

Thebes chairs were among Liberty & Co.’s most recognisable designs, produced in variations from the late nineteenth century and widely illustrated in period catalogues. This example, with its well-preserved seat and balanced proportions, illustrates the firm’s role in popularising exotic and historical styles within late Victorian domestic interiors.

We have another Liberty & Co., attributed Thebes style armchair which has been meticulously restored.
