By Marsh, Jones and Cribb, a pair of oak desk or side chairs attributed to Charles Bevan, aligned to the Gothic Revival movement (1840–1880), c.1875. Each chair has a rectangular padded back above a short row of turned spindles and a moulded top rail, over a stuffed seat in green upholstery. The seat rails carry recessed panels with geometric and roundel inlay, the front corners finished with chamfered spandrels. Front legs are ring-turned and fitted with small castors; rear legs are square and un-castored; all are joined by a shaped H-stretcher with turned elements. The measured ornament and architectural structure are consistent with Bevan’s work for Marsh, Jones and Cribb in the mid-1870s.
