Tea and cake table in mahogany, attributed to E. W. Godwin, aligned to the Aesthetic Movement (1860–1890), c.1881, British. The table is composed with a circular main surface, an upper circular tier on an extended turned centre support and a lower circular display shelf.
The structure stands on three outward-splayed turned legs, each ring-turned and linked by shaped stretchers to the lower circular shelf. The raised circular rims, central turned column and tripod arrangement give the piece a light vertical form, designed for serving, display and occasional domestic use.
The design is illustrated in Susan Weber Soros, The Secular Furniture of E. W. Godwin, p.170, ill.244. (see last image)
