A pair of Aesthetic Movement Sussex side chairs with newly laid rush seats. These chairs have been totally restored and have had new rush professionally laid to the seats.
Professionally re-rushing a chair seat demands a good deal of time. We must start by removing the old rush, then labelling all the separate parts so the chair goes back together exactly the way it came apart.
Next, gently dismantle the chairs, clean all the joints and joint ends, re-glue and clamp them for at least 24 hours. Remove the clamps, clean and wax the chairs, and send them off to the rush seat specialist to lay new rush seats.
This should always be completed before the new rush is laid because if the chair is even slightly loose at the joints, it will only get worse.
