John Moyr Smith for Mintons. A set of eight red earthenware tiles designed by John Moyr Smith, each depicting a different scene from Shakespeare’s plays. The tiles are printed in sepia-red on a cream ground within a circular frame surrounded by Gothic lettering and floral ornament. Produced by Mintons during the late Victorian era, these designs combined narrative illustration with decorative purpose, reflecting the influence of literature and the Aesthetic Movement within the Arts and Crafts tradition.
